Nutritional Supplement May Aid In Improving Success Of Hair Transplants

Introduction

The "Help Hair Shake" is a nutritional supplement. There is a evidence to suggest that it may help with hair regrowth of hair after a hair transplant operation. Hair regrowth after hair transplantation can be a slow process taking 9 months or more to appear. Dr. Larry Shapiro experimented with this supplement after the hair transplantations that he performs, he found that this shake helped 89% of his patients get full growth back after six months. The Help Hair Shake ingredients include a whey protein concentrate base. The evidence for this was presented by Dr. Shapiro at The Next Big Thing: Hair Research and Advanced Live Surgery Workshop in Istanbul on May 14th 2011.

Who is Dr. Larry Shapiro

Dr. Larry Shapiro is a transplant hair doctor from South Florida, USA. He has been practicing from 1989 in South Florida and has performed over 11,000 hair transplant procedures. Dr. Shapiro was the pioneer of the "strip incision" type of hair transplant and the first doctor in the South of the states to do micro-mini grafts.

What is the purported mechanism for this supplement?

The theory is that the increase in anabolic metabolism may have a change in the regeneration of the hair follicle, which is central to the whole problem of hair loss. In the presentation it was noted that hair loss may be effected by the lifestyle and nutrition of the hair loss patient. Certain products such as steroids, weight gainers, creatine, whey protein isolates and growth hormones may elevate testosterone and DHT. Most specifically the research information present by Dr. Shapiro suggested that whey protein being the most common form of supplement may be impacting the hair regrowth. This has a large bearing on weight trainers, as whey protein is often used to supplement meals for weight gainers.

How did this new discovery come about

Dr. Shapiro gave some of his patients Help Hair Shake after their transplants and found that their hair was growing back faster than expected. In the usual situation hair transplantation can take up to 9 months to show its full effect.

Details of the study

The study was of 115 hair transplant patients. They were given the Help Hair Shake two times a day after the hair transplant operation. It was found that the patients who had taken the Help Hair Share has "significant" hair growth after 3 months post the transplant, this compared most favourably with the control group who has no "significant" growth in that period. After 6 months 52 of the patients were followed up on an it was found that 89% of them had complete growth of the transplanted hairs. Nine months on from the hair transplants it was found that the control group joined the patients on the nutritional supplement with the growth.
