How Wide Spread Is Hair Loss?

A study was conducted in Feb 2001 to identify the prevalence of hair loss in women. Br J Dermatol. 2001 Feb;144(2):297-304.. In this study 377 women were studied between the ages of 18 and 99. These were women who came to a general dermatology clinic with problems which were not related to hair loss. A comparison group of 47 women who were referred with female pattern hair loss were also examined. Hair density of the women was measured using a photographic method. The figures for men were from Medem Medical Library's website. Another study called the Prevalence of male pattern hair loss in 18-49 year old men, gives more incite.
